This rugged trail begins in the Lake Chelan National Recreation Area and climbs steeply for the first 2 miles through open forest to enter Glacier Peak Wilderness.

It then traverses a steep side hill, rocky bluffs and slide paths through thicker timber to Company Creek crossing at 5 miles, which can be a risky crossing during spring melt. Past the creek crossing, it follows the creek to the head of the basin and switchbacks steeply to Hilgard Pass, an incredibly scenic area, but one that can be dangerous when snow is present.

It is possible to link this trail to nearby Devore Creek for a strenuous loop hike that originates and ends in the Stehekin Valley.
