This is a 1.2-mile loop trail that takes hikers on a tour of the structure the Army Corps of Engineers built to keep sediment from Mount St. Helens from washing down the Toutle River and inundating the communities downstream.

Begin at the parking area near the service buildings for the structure. Your walk takes you to an overlook, then onto the structure itself, where you can enjoy views upriver and some of the marshland created by this structure.

The marshy area can attract birds and other wildlife -- if you are patient you may see a variety of animals in this area.
