This trail has seen too many users over the last year. When I arrived in the late afternoon, the parking lot was over full, with cars parked in the middle of the lot asking to be ticketed. The space in the center of the lot is to be left empty in case emergency vehicles need to us it.
I saw about a dozen other trail users in the first mile of my hike, then the birds and I had the place to ourselves as I hiked out to highway 291 and back along the Little Spokane River. The heat of the day lingered toward sunset, cooling as I returned to an almost empty parking lot. I’m not sorry I missed the crowds this evening.
