This is a popular trail for good reason. It's about an hour drive from Seattle, and it's gorgeous!

We arrived on a 54 degree Sunday morning around 8:00 to find not many cars  - yet. The lower part of the trail was green, lush and full of old growth trees with a well maintained, albeit wet, trail. Upper portion of the trail is very rocky with switchbacks but with some nice views. Fall foliage was well underway.  That paired with a mist that was hanging around made for a lovely Fall preview. Once up top, we decided to continue the trail all the way around the lake. On our loop we saw a field of fireweed in bloom, tiny waterfalls, snow, and an adorable boardwalk over the marshy areas.  The trail got very busy once we started to head back down, and the parking lot had filled.
Wildlife: Little birds and a chipmunk. Not much life on or around the trail, probably because this is a dog friendly hike.
Smoke: No wildfire smoke at all.
Bugs: No bugs.
Shoes: I wore hiking boots for this one because of the wet trail, rocks, and cooler temperature. I wore trail runners on this trail before, and I would recommend a boot or hiking shoe.
Road: Paved all the way!
