This was a hike of connections old and new. Trail conditions on this popular route are great! Snow is nearly gone.
I headed to the trail Sunday morning with two former co-workers from years ago. A little ways past the ranger station we offered a ride to Nick from Virginia, who is thru-hiking the Pacific Northwest Trail. Running from Continental Divide to the Pacific, this 1,200 mile is incredibly rugged and scenic. We dropped Nick off at the visitor center near Artists Point for a well-deserved snack. Good luck, Nick!
Right before hitting the trail, we met fellow Hike-a-Thoner Ashish, out for a hike with his young son.
Later that afternoon, we even met a celebrity! Nyima, the four-legged former candidate for Whatcom County Prosecutor, was out for a hike with his human, Frank. (Don't believe me? Check out his appearance on John Oliver's "Last Week Tonight" from 8/5!)
Overall a great day and a wonderful reminder that it's not just about the destination. You can meet all kinds of great people out there!
