Take a short, steep hike from the trailhead (about 0.5 mi north of the end of Whiskey Bend Road) down 400 feet to an overlook of the Elwha River. The area here is rugged, and erosion has caused the end of the trail to wash away, so be careful!
The upper section of trail can be tricky to navigate, as foot traffic churns the wet ground into a muddy mess. However, the lower section of trail is good. Along the way, you may see wildflowers blooming in the lakebed, and chirping birds keep you company on your hike.
